Horizon Proteins

Our pioneering technology provides sustainable solutions for the whisky industry.

We transform distilling co-products into cost-effective, high-quality nutrients for aqua/animal feed industries.

By transforming pot ale, liquid residue left over from the whisky-making process, Horizon Proteins are at the forefront of Scotland’s circular bioeconomy.

Our Goal

Every year, the malt whisky industry in Scotland alone produces around three billion litres of pot ale.
Horizon Proteins’ technology, which has undergone three large scale industrial trials, provides environmentally and economically sustainable methods to manage it.

Our goal is to replace traditional proteins used in salmon feeding such as fish meal and soya bean meal with locally sourced, readily available, sustainable protein which we believe will also be
competitively priced and altogether a very attractive option for Scottish salmon farmers.
